what do river blindness, elephantiasis, and canine heartworm have in common?  yes, they are all caused by parasitic worm infections, but the root cause of all the infections is not the worm itself, but a bacteria within the worm known as Wolbachia, which you can see above as the little glowing specimens inside the wasp egg.  

yes, a parasite within a parasite.  parasite-ception!  paraception!  parasiteption!  …ok I clearly need to work on my Inception puns.

I had never heard of this bacterium before today.  I love learning new things, and I especially love sharing the new things I’ve learned.  feel free to always submit your new discoveries :)
